2018 MLK Day of Service – Toy Drive

Way to go BMES families…what a collaboration on the 2018 MLK Day of Service project! The PTA contributed the bins to this project, you contributed the toys and games and BMES coordinated and organized this effort. On Tuesday the toys and games were sorted and placed in bins. Bins will be distributed to classrooms soon to be used for indoor recess.
From the Principal’s newsletter: “A HUGE shout out to all the families and staff who supported our first Indoor Recess Toy Drive. We received an abundance of toys and games to gift each classroom with their own indoor recess bin filled with toys and games.”

National School Counseling Week

National School Counseling Week is being celebrated from February 5-9, 2018 to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within the U.S. school systems.

Thank you Ms. Bell for all of your contributions to Burnt Mills Elementary School and for helping all of our students reach for the stars! On behalf of the PTA and its members, Ms. Bell was presented this card of appreciation today.

MLK Day of Service

In honor of the 2018 MLK Day of Service, the PTA and Burnt Mills Elementary School staff and students are sponsoring a Toy Drive to benefit the students at BMES. Together, we will create indoor recess bins for every classroom!

Please see the Indoor recess Toy Drive flyer for details on the Toy Drive. Donated toys (new or gently used) can be dropped off in the bins outside of the main office from January 10-31. Please see the flyer for suggested toy donations.

Thank you for your support!

Thank you…Hot Cocoa Fun Run

Thank you to all of those in the Burnt Mills community that attended the PTA Hot Cocoa 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, December 2nd. We were pleased by the great turnout of families and we are grateful for your support. Your contributions raised just over $2,000!!! This money will be used to help fund the cultural arts programs at Burnt Mills Elementary School this year.
We are excited to announce that Sra. Arango’s kindergarten class had the highest participation! They win a hot cocoa party in the classroom.
While the Fun Run was a great success, we couldn’t have done it without all of our volunteers, sponsors and the generous donations of community businesses! We would especially like to thank Ray Mensah for his delightful DJ’ing, Lanishka Clarke-Hedgman for her fabulous face painting, and PTA Treasurer Margaret Holt for her terrific T-shirt decorating. Volunteers assisted with set-up, keeping runners encouraged on the course and serving hot cocoa.
We also would like to thank the following local businesses:
·        Giant Foods and Trader Joe’s for generously donating our hot cocoa toppings
·        Bonjour Waffles food truck for coming to our event and providing delicious waffles
·        Recess Catering, Eterna Day Spa, Alchemy Salon, Blue Heron Wellness, Bark! of Silver Spring, and Sweet Frog for donating door prizes.
